The event looked at the history behind some of the oldest residential buildings in Bedford: 1-4 St Paul’s Square had recently been renovated and developed into assisted housing. Bedfordshire Archives extensively researched each house and unearthed documents telling five centuries of stories of the buildings, their uses and the people who lived in them. The treasure hunt involved a rare opportunity to investigate these original documents while completing a challenging treasure hunt style quiz.
Working in teams of four, the students were able to retrieve information and even the archives staff were impressed at the speed of the students.
Jacob of the winning team said, “It was extremely interesting and the presentation of the task was such that it helped people use their initiative as well as using History and English skills (as well as winning lots of chocolate)!”
