The three roundabouts south of the A421 on the A6 are being completely resurfaced throughout February, according to Bedford Borough Council.

However, the works will be being carried out overnight only to minimise disruption and each roundabout will be resurfaced in isolation to avoid unnecessary disruption and diversion routes will be in place while the work is being carried out.

The Wilstead Road, Elstow roundabout is being resurfaced first, followed by the Bedford Road, Wilstead/Southern Cross roundabout and finally The Causeway, Wixams roundabout. All works are programmed to be completed by the end of February.

They will be closed from 8pm to 6am on the relevant nights. Residents of the Wixams are able to access the village throughout this time.

Cllr Charles Royden, portfolio holder for highways and transport, said: “A major project saw us completely rebuild a stretch of the A6 further south which had started to collapse.

“These works further north are making improvements to more of this busy route into Bedford Borough, resurfacing these three roundabouts. Thank you to road users and local residents for their patience as we carry out these works.”
