Bedford residents invited to find out more about rail bridge upgrade

Network Rail is inviting residents in Bedford to hear more about the next stage of the Bromham Road bridge upgrade.

And workers are holding a public information event on Wednesday (January 29) from 4-7pm at Bedford station.

From today (January 27), Network Rail engineers will be on site overnight during the week to carry out work to the embankment.

This stage of the project - which is part of the Midland Main Line Upgrade - will take six weeks to complete. This overnight work is in addition to the current day time work taking place.

There will also be three times when overnight weekend work is required.

This will take place on the following dates and times:

From 11pm on Saturday, February 1 to 11pm on Sunday, February, 2

From midnight on Saturday, February 15 to 4am on Monday, February 16

From midnight on Saturday, February 22 to 4am on Monday, February 24

According to Network Rail, this is vital to allow work on the project to progress.

A huge amount of work has already been done with the old bridge being demolished and reconstructed at a higher height.
