Generous residents of Ampthill have donated more than £2,250 to St John's Hospice in just five days.

During the Ampthill Proms, the committee of the Ampthill Festival donated £1,000 in memory of Brian Young, a long-term member of the committee, who died at St John’s shortly before the start of the event.

There was also a collection at Waitrose Ampthill a few days later which raised another £1,250 for St John’s.

Town Mayor Margaret Wilson said: “The compassion and generosity of Ampthill residents never ceases to amaze me.”

Simon Burne, from the hospice, thanked residents and all those who gave donations and Waitrose for allowing St John’s to hold a collection in their store.
