Police dog Thor sniffed out a suspected drink-driver who had fled the scene of an accident.
The cop dog and his handler were called into action in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday.
At around 2.30am, a silver Volkswagen and a silver Vauxhall collided in Ampthill Road, Bedford.
Specially trained Thor tracked the suspect through an alleyway, across a railway and into another alley. He then led his handler through a park into Belfry Close where the man was located and arrested.
Sgt Vicky Stoughton, from the Beds, Cambs and Herts dog unit, said: Our dogs are chosen specifically for their excellent sense of smell, agility and temperament. These attributes make them ideally suited to assist their handlers and other officers at numerous types of incidents.”
>A 26 year old man from St Ives was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving. He has been released on police bail until September 21.
