That's tidy! Biggleswade tip re-opens after refurbishment

Its’ closure last year, for re-development, caused a storm of protest and fears of an increase in fly tipping.

The redevelopment was part of a wider investment by Central Beds Council to modernise and improve Household Waste Recycling Centres across Central Bedfordshire to ensure they are easy to use and equipped to meet future needs as demands increase due to a growing population.

When the Biggleswade site reopens it will have an improved layout and a modern split-level design that will allow residents to more easily dispose of their waste into containers from an elevated platform.

Residents will also be able to recycle a wider range of materials there.

Councillor Budge Wells, Deputy Executive Member for Community Services at Central BedsCouncil, said: “We want to thank all residents for bearing with us while the much needed redevelopment work took place and for their continued efforts to recycle.

“The new flagship site will be a high standard facility which will provide many long term benefits such as improved safety, better access throughout the site and more opportunities to recycle.”

Ampthill Household Waste Recycling Centre in Abbey Lane will be the next site to temporarily close for redevelopment.

The Ampthill site will close at 5pm on Sunday, 14 February for up to six months and there will also be a temporary site to dispose of garden waste once the growing season starts.
