Team GB star opens Aldi's second Bedford store

Olympic Gold Medallist Tom Ransley attracted customers to the opening of Aldi's new store in Bedford this morning.

One of the UK’s favourite supermarkets, Aldi, has opened the store on Westville Road to meet the region’s demand for high quality products at every day amazing prices.

Tom Ransley, who cut the ribbon in front of cheering customers, said: “It was great to open Aldi’s new Bedford store this morning and a pleasure to meet and greet so many customers.

“I expect the range of high quality and healthy produce available at affordable prices will be gratefully received in the local community.”

Aldi has recently announced it is the highest-paying supermarket in the UK, staff now earn at least £8.53 per hour, which is higher than the Government’s national living wage rate of £7.20 an hour.

The new store has created 40 new jobs for the local community, with a number of positions still available.

Aldi store manager Damian O’Callaghan said: “It was a pleasure to meet Tom Ransley along with some volunteers from the Kings Arms Project this morning.

The store, located on Westville Road, Bedford, MK42 9BL, is now open.
