Talk will highlight role of iconic plane

A talk on an iconic wartime aircraft is to take place in Sharnbrook, in aid of a number of charities.

The Avro Lancaster was the RAF’s main heavy bomber of World War 2 and is seen at many air displays with its Spitfire and Hurricane contemporaries in the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF).

Guest speaker at The Lancaster Dinner next month will be Flt. Lt Roger Nichols, now in his 10th season as a Lancaster and Dakota captain and flying instructor of the BBMF.

The dinner is at the initiative of John Hulance, president of The Rotary Club of Bedford and the youngest son of the late Freddie Hulance, a local man and wartime Lancaster pilot whose final mission in April 1945 was against Berchtesgaden, Hitler’s fortified mountain retreat in Bavaria. Freddie later became well known in the leather industry and was a stalwart of the Bomber Command Association and sometimes appeared in TV documentaries.

The Lancaster Dinner will be held at The Sharnbrook Hotel on September 22, 6.30pm for 7.15pm, in aid of Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Charities, Road Victims Trust and local charities supported by The Rotary Club of Bedford.

Dress is to be lounge suits or smart casual and tickets at £40 each are available at [email protected]
