Summer fete marks opening of refurbished Colworth House

The community event was held in the grounds of the 91-acre science park, on Saturday, July 30, with a mix of traditional games, competitions, entertainers and a reptile show.

Younger visitors also enjoyed the bouncy castle, face painting and magic shows.

Local and artisan stall holders pitched up in the craft tent, selling everything from

handmade gifts and crafts to food, including traditional Irish delicacies. Visitors also enjoyed a barbecue, prepared by Colworth Park’s own chefs.

Mini golf was a big draw for families looking forward enjoy the traditional summer pastime - and a chance for some friendly competition! The the rugby target ball challenge was also popular with children and adults alike.

As well as enjoying the summer with the local community, the event marked the official opening of Colworth House, the Grade II* listed mansion house, situated at the centre of the R&D hub, that has been under refurbishment since February.

Visitors were invited on a tour of the revamped historic mansion, which has been transformed into contemporary business accommodation. It will offer bespoke spaces to accommodate anything from a one-person micro-office up to suites for 30 people or more.

Keith Purdie, business development manager, said: “We were thrilled at the turnout at the fete - it was fantastic to welcome so many of our neighbours and friends to Colworth Park and celebrate the summer season with them.

“Our parkland setting lends itself to outdoor events. We were lucky with the weather this year, which meant everyone could get stuck in with summer games and the barbecue. We’re already thinking about our next event, and hope this becomes a calendar event for the local community.

“It was great to show people around the newly-refurbished Colworth House and see them react to the transformation. Our team have worked tirelessly on the project and it was a proud day to unveil the finished building and declare it open for business.”

He added: “It was fitting to celebrate this milestone with our friends and supporters of the park.”

Chair of the parish council, Marilyn Basketter, was among those attending the fete.
