Bedfordshire has been battered by storms overnight and into Saturday morning with winds of more than 70mph.

Damage to property and trees uprooted have been reported as hundreds of homes have been left without power.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue service have been called out to a number of incidents including dealing with fallen trees and damage to properties.

A tree uprooted in the early hours of this morning (Saturday) left Shakespeare Road in Bedford closed while the debris was cleared, although the road is now reopened.

The Met Office issued amber weather warnings for the region yesterday (Friday, February 14).

Bands of rain may continue to see river levels rise, although the winds are forecasted to ease during today (Saturday, February 15.)

The Environment Agency says a flood alert remains in place for the River Great Ouse in the Bedford area.
