The donations were among a total of £19 million nationwide to local causes through the 1% raised by Co-op members.

The team at Cranfield Co-op were delighted to have given a total of £7,191.64 to its three local causes, Cranfield Friends at Cranfield Academy, Thriftvale Scout Group and The Forest of Marston Vale.

They celebrated with a cheque handover ceremony on Saturday, November 24, followed by a cake and a craft event to create Christmas decorations. These were in the theme of peace which will be used on a tree in the church of St Peter and St Paul’s Christmas tree festival on December 8 and 9.

The store also held a charity tombola and cake sale in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The Co-op team said: “Cranfield really does have a strong sense of community which is going from strength to strength. The support they give in this village is always phenomenal,”
