Flitwick and Sharnbrook based team, Rebellion Roller Derby, was one of the groups meeting prospective new members at the Women and Girls’ Festival at Bunyan Sports Centre in Bedford.

The festival was a showcase of sports teams from the local area and future female sporting stars were able to speak with the different groups and try out some of the sports.

Bedford mayor Dave Hodgson even stopped by to find out more about Rebellion Roller Derby.

The group, which trains on Fridays and Sundays and welcomes all women aged 18 plus, proved popular with the punters, many of whom were keen to join the team’s next beginners’ course.

Emily Metcalfe, skate name Millie, said: “It was a great day. We met lots of different people and we were able to tell them that not only is joining the team a great way to get fit and learn the sport but it is also the opportunity to be part of a huge, welcoming and accepting sisterhood.

“We have a range of people from those who have played sports before to people with no experience as well as those who had been made to feel unwelcome in other sports. We can’t wait to see them at our new intake session.”

If you missed the festival then it’s not too late to get in touch. Experience of roller skating is not required – in fact most people cannot skate before joining the team – and all equipment will be provided for the course.
