Business students at The Bedford Sixth Form have been celebrating winning places at prestigious universities – months ahead of A-Level results anxiously awaited by school pupils across the county.

The diploma course they have taken is recognised as the best foundation for business degree studies and a range of universities have guaranteed them places for the autumn.

Level 3 Diplomas are equivalent to 2 or 3 A Levels and because assessment is course-based, the universities can see clearly what students are able to achieve across their two years of work.

Business Teacher and Advanced Practitioner Kirsty Maidment said: “The success of getting guaranteed places to their first choice universities means our students are months ahead of the game.

“It means they can finish with us on May 22 and go ahead and enjoy their summer, confident in the knowledge they have their future secured.”

The Bedford Sixth Form is a stepping-up stone from school to the adult environment of university. Based in Bromham Road, it is in the building of the former Harpur Trust High School.

The Bedford Sixth Form welcomes 100s of 16 and 17-year-olds from across the county who opt for the widest range of diploma and A Level courses, made possible by the large number of students.

A good percentage of students have been offered places at Russell Group universities and many more their first choice places on course most suited to their future careers.

School pupils wishing to step up to The Bedford Sixth Form can inquire now or join the GCSE post-results advice day on August 20. Visit
