Segway stolen after boys are threatened in knifepoint robbery

Two teenagers were threatened with a knife by a man who attempted to steal the Segway they were playing on.

The two 15-year-old boys were approached by a man at the junction of Needwood Road and Ettrick Drive, Bedford, at around 9.45pm on Wednesday (Sept 2).

The offender produced a knife and demanded they hand over the Segway. One of the boys then ran down the road but was chased by the offender who again brandished the knife. The man grabbed the Segway and then ran off down Needwood Road.

He is described as around 5ft 5in to 5ft7in, wearing a black hooded top, a black and white bandana covering his face, black gloves and dark jeans. He was also wearing a cap which was pulled down over his face.

Detective Constable Chris Avery, investigating, said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the boys. Robbery is a nasty crime and will not be tolerated. We take the use and possession of weapons very seriously and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have information to help our enquiries. We are looking to speak to anyone who has seen a man matching the description on the area or who has been offered a Segway to buy in the last few days.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Avery on 101 or text information to 07786 200 011 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
