Members of Flitwick Scout Group had a great time when they took to the water to try to gain some badges.

They were given the chance to try water activities they had never done before, and for the boys and girls aged 8 to 10, this was a great opportunity to earn their “Time on the water” badge. The event, organised by 1st Luton Sea Scouts, gave the Scouts the chance to paddle a canoe, build a raft and then manoeuvre it around part of the Luton Hoo Lake, kayak, row a boat and finally go on a sailing boat. This was the first time any of them had been on a sailing boat or in a rowing boat. All of the children thoroughly enjoyed the good weather and the opportunity to undertake some water activities for the first time. James, aged nine, said: “It was a really good day; I slipped off the raft into the water and then I jumped into the water when we finished all of the activities”.

Adult volunteer Nigel Taylor said: “Scouting gives young people the opportunity to do activities for the first time in a safe environment. These young people will want to come back again. Scouting provides over 200 activities from abseiling to zorbing and members of Flitwick

Scout Group have probably done most of them.”

Flitwick Scout Group is open to boys and girls aged 6 to 14. For further information, please see
