Scouts and leaders from Flitwick take up seats in Cabinet at Number 10

Explorer scouts and young leaders from Flitwick had a unique experience when they had a guided tour inside 10 Downing Street.

They were joined by other explorer scouts from Aspley Guise.

One of the highlights was that they were able to sit round the Cabinet table. Everyone in the party had to leave mobile phones and cameras at the front door.

The visit was arranged so the explorers could prepare for the UK Parliament Week where they would debate various subjects.

Young Leader Rory Wilson said: “I never thought I would ever get the experience to go into 10 Downing Street. It was a brilliant experience to see all of the history, the portraits of previous Prime Ministers and to sit around the Cabinet table.”

Explorer scout leader Theo Demmers said: “Scouting not only provides opportunities for young people, it also gives adult volunteers the opportunity to do something they would not be able to do if they were not in scouting. There are not many adults who can say they’ve sat around the ‘seats of power’. It just goes to show how scouting can open doors.”
