The Swan pub in Flitwick has re-opened following a major revamp with new hosts behind the bar.

Steph and Tony English took on the pub in September and have been working with owners Charles Wells to transform it into a new venue with a complete makeover inside and out to make room for the couple’s plans.

The pub, just off the High Street, is the first hostelry for Tony and Steph who have run their own businesses but always had dreams of running a local pub.

They say they want to inject good old fashioned hospitality into the community and already have the locals excited with more than 650 people following the progress at The Swan on Facebook before it had even opened.

As well as adding new decor outside and a bigger car park, the couple have kept the public bar on one side of the pub but created a restaurant area on the other where they’ll be serving quality pub favourites with some quirky dishes too from Steph’s native South Africa.

The drinks line up has also been revamped with more craft, alternative beers on offer alongside locally brewed traditional ales, a selection of wines and bubbly as well as soft drinks and hot drinks.

Due to popular demand they’ve promised there’ll be live entertainment at the pub and, being opposite the train station, they are tempting commuters in by opening a “coffee hatch” first thing in the morning.

Steph said: “We wanted to put our own unique spin on the pub and we were excited to see what people thought and we’ve been completely bowled over with the response. We had so much interest during the building work with people wanting to know what was happening and since we opened we have seen loads of new people coming through the door. It’s great to see so many amazed faces at the pub’s new look and we’re also getting loads of feedback so it’s heartening how passionate people are about their local- we’re really thrilled to be part of this community.”

Tony and Steph first opened the doors to get the pub up and running at the end of October to iron out any early issues and following their official re-launch night on Thursday, November 12, are now ready to welcome customers old and new through the door.
