Rainbows enjoy right royal picnic on the Mall

Members of the 1st Wootton Rainbows were among a group of Girlguides from Bedfordshire who celebrated the Queen's 90th birthday at the Patron's Lunch on the Mall.

The group were selected by ballot to represent Girlguiding Anglia along with other brownies and guides on Sunday, June 12, meeting up with 90 others from around the UK.

The day started with a colourful pageant and picnic lunch followed by speeches and a parade.

Representatives from over 600 charities of which The Queen is patron, including Girlguiding, enjoyed this very special street party.

Ruby Scaleg was part of the Bedfordshire group who attended the lunch. She said: “It was the best day ever and I’ll never forget it.”

Nicola Hickson, leader at 1st Wootton Rainbows, said: “It was a fantastic day with great food and it was brilliant to see the royals. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for the girls and it was very special for us all.”
