Gareth has had seven months to get used to his champion status as the final was filmed last October.
He said: “I did tell a couple of people, such as my mum. We watched it on Tuesday together with my brother, who I hadn’t told. He was amazed.”
Gareth is no stranger to quizzing having reached the semi-finals of Mastermind three times.
