Pupils show green fingers planting up a shrubbery

Pupils from St Joseph’s Catholic School joined the Queen’s Park Community Orchard to plant shrubs in a flower bed in the car park at the corner of Havelock St and Ford End.

The young gardeners took “great delight” in digging the soil and stamping down the earth around each plant.

Orchard secretary Marie-Ange Comerford-Raillon said: “It was great to be able to organise this event for the 50th anniversary of St Joseph Lower School. The school has become an integral part of the group.”

Acting headteacher Alison Symonds added: “This was a very special event for us, being able to come together with QPCO and celebrate the school’s anniversary, in a way that benefits the whole of the Queen’s Park community. We look forward to seeing the shrubs and bulbs in bloom over the coming months and years.”

The planting session followed the orchard group’s AGM on Saturday (January 23), and was one of several celebratory events planned by the school for the rest of the academic year.
