Prince Charles to visit Bedford early next month - the Higgins is on his tour

The Prince of Wales will get a taste of Bedford’s festive spirit as he makes a tour of the town and surrounding villages early next month.

Prince Charles, who turned 65 last week, will visit Bedford on Tuesday, December 3, where he will meet the volunteers and groups decorating Christmas trees for the Christmas Tree Festival at St Paul’s Church in St Paul’s Square.

Mayor of Bedford Dave Hodgson said: “It is extremely exciting news that His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, will be visiting Bedford borough next month.

“He will be touring the transformed £5.8million Higgins Bedford, which has attracted visitors from far and wide since opening in May as well as meeting representatives of the Townscape Heritage Initiative, which is revitalising Bedford High Street by working with local business and property owners to restore historic properties to their former glories.

“This is an excellent opportunity to show off the very best of Bedford borough and I am sure he will be rightly impressed with everything Bedford has to offer.”

During the tour of the Higgins the Prince will meet artists, school children and lacemakers.

The museum, which re-opened in June after extensive renovations, holds many artefacts related to the history of Bedford, as part of its extensive collection.

Representatives of the High Street regeneration project will also meet the Prince.

From Bedford, Prince Charles will head to Tempsford to unveil a memorial to the women who flew from there during the Second World War to aid the resistance movement in occupied Europe.

After a quick pint in The Wheatsheaf pub in Tempsford, the Prince will visit Jordan’s Mill in Broom where he will meet factory workers.
