A 24-hour pool tournament is being held from tonight in memory of a dad who would have been celebrating his 50th birthday today.

Terry Legate from Biggleswade, lost his four-year fight against cancer on December 1 last year at the age of 49.

He had booked Biggleswade Social Club in October last year for his birthday bash just before he was given the news the disease was terminal.

Now his sons are holding a pool tournament, starting at 6pm at the club on Church Street in his memory.

Mum Nikki Legate said: “We are raising money for St John’s in Moggerhanger who looked after him for just over three weeks near the end and did a wonderful job and need all the support to keep such an amazing place going.

“We are also raising money for Keech children’s hospice who supported our family in 2008 with our daughter Leanne who had undiagnosed seizures from birth who we also lost at 16 months old.”

Terry was also one of the pool captains and a committee member at the club.

Said Nikki: “Please come along and support the boys along with some of Terry’s friends on either the Friday night or Saturday between 11pm and 6pm when it ends as they play continuous matches to raise money for two great causes.”
