Yet another planning application to convert a former Bedford pub has been submitted to the borough council.

In the last three years, two applications to demolish the The Cricketers Arms, Goldington Road to build an apartment block, and another to construct a house in multiple occupation (HMO) above the pub, have all been refused by the council.

This time the application is to convert the pub to a restaurant.

The applicants for the new application said the conversion of The Cricketers Arms into a restaurant was necessitated by “changing social dynamics and economic conditions”.

They added this adaptive reuse will “preserve” the building’s structure and historical integrity while “enhancing its functionality to meet contemporary needs”.

The limited information included as part of the application does not state the type of restaurant planned for the site.

More information can be found on the council’s planning portal, reference 24/00849/S73A. The overall consultation expiry date is Wednesday, June 5, 2024.
