Police welcome swift justice following life sentence of killer

Police have welcomed swift justice following yesterday’s sentencing of murderer Ian Brunner.

The 47 year old, of Byron Crescent, Bedford, stabbed his friend John-Mark Duffy, 39, in the chest following a disagreement.

They had returned to another man’s flat after drinking in the town in January where they had got into a row.

Police and paramedics were called to the flat but John-Mark died at the scene.

Brunner pleaded guilty to murder on Friday and was sentenced to life at Luton Crown Court yesterday.

He must serve a minimum of 12-and-a-half years.

Det Insp Jerry Waite from the Beds, Cambs and Herts major crime unit said: “We are pleased he has admitted to this callous attack and justice has been done swiftly without a need for a protracted trial.

“It is never acceptable to take a life. We will always do everything in our power to ensure that those culpable are brought to justice.”
