Pre-works are beginning as part of plans to improve Flitwick train station with the demolition of a kebab shop at the site.

Nearly £5 million of funding from Central Bedfordshire Council and South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP) will be invested into the interchange - and construction starts later in the summer.

The building is expected to be demolished by Friday (June 4) and the car park will unavailable during this time.

The new interchange will include:

>A new station forecourt with pedestrian, cycle and vehicle access

>A new passenger drop-off and dedicated taxi areas

>A public transport interchange with three bus stops, passenger waiting areas, including real-time departure information

>Improvements to Steppingley Road, including vehicle access to both the station and Tesco opposite

>Dedicated facilities for Center Parcs Woburn passenger collection and drop-off
