The woman who lights up Ampthill for Christmas every year has been honoured by the town council.

Helen Driver has been added to the Ampthill Roll of Honour for transforming the festive lights.

Mayor Ian Titman presented her with the award in front of the historic Georgian market town’s huge Christmas tree.

And he paid tribute to Helen, for her vision in creating the display.

She helped raise funds for new white lights and recruited the same crack design team which dresses the Queen’s Christmas tree at Windsor Castle.

Previously, Bedford Today reported how Helen even sent this year's first Christmas tree back because it was the wrong shapeProudly wearing her new Ampthill medal of honour, she said: “The town always punches above it weight with its Christmas display, as with so many other things.

“It’s the best place to live in Bedfordshire.”
