Video shows romantic Bedford man using robot to deliver marriage proposal to his girlfriend

A romantic man from Bedford employed the help of a robot to make his marriage proposal extra special.

Ben Hogan, 39, arranged for the Starship Technologies robot to make a special delivery to his girlfriend Sherri Dawes, 38.

Sherri thought the robot was delivering a takeaway to her family.

But when she opened the lid, she found a sparking engagement ring nestled in among rose petals.

Ben promptly got down on one knee and popped the question. A delighted Sherri burst into tears and said yes.

The robot then drove off, complete with a triumphant wheelie.

A video of the unusual proposal, which was arranged with the help of robot company Starship Technologies, is now proving a hit on YouTube - see the video in this story.

Ben, who is an app developer, arranged access to the robot before delivery to decorate it with petals and arrange the ring in a silver box in the centre.

He arranged for the video to be filmed of the proposal, with the words: "I just want to thank you for being my reason to look forward to the next day".

Ben said he chose the unconventional method because he knew Sherri loved the robots, which are a common sight trundling along the streets of Milton Keynes.

"Actually, even though I'm a geek, it's Sherri's obsession with these robots," he said.

Starship have congratulated the happy couple, who met just before the first lockdown last March.

A spokesman for the company said: "Thank you Ben for including us in your special day. Forget the Best Man, can we be your Best Bot?"

Due to Covid restrictions, Ben and Sherri have not yet set a date for their wedding.
