Two Bedford pensioners killed in horror minibus crash

Two elderly women from Bedford have died following a minibus crash while on their way home from a Christmas market in Ely.

Barbara McGruer, of Trent Road, was one of 18 people taken to hospital after the crash on the B1040 near Bluntisham.

The 86-year-old died as a result of her injuries on Saturday, November 16.

Dozens of emergency services, including two air ambulances, were called to the junction with Bluntisham Heath Road on Thursday evening.

The minibus, which was full of pensioners, had overturned after colliding with a VW Gold.

Margaret Henwood, who was 85 and from Foxlease, was pronounced dead at the scene.

One other minibus passenger remains in a critical condition while ten people remain in hospital with serious injuries.

The latter group include the driver of the VW, a man in his 70s.
