St Peter's Street Car Park will temporarily close this week so investigative survey work can take place ahead of a major refurbishment next month.

It will shut from 5pm on Thursday (January 7) to 5pm Friday (January 8).

The main work - resurfacing the car park to remove potholes and replacing the current drainage system - will take place in February and March.

Councillor Charles Royden, portfolio holder for environment, said: “Across the town centre we are investing in our council owned car parks to ensure that they are fit for purpose and of a high quality. The works to St Peter’s Street Car Park are just part of a larger package of investment that we’re bringing to our parking facilities across the town centre.

“Ahead of works taking place, signage will be displayed to make people aware that the car park will be closed for 24 hours from 5pm on January 7.”

All other council owned car parks will be available for parking. Two hours free parking is also available every weekday at Queen Street Multi Storey Car Park, alongside free parking after 6pm in all council-owned car parks, except River Street Car Park.
