Shortstown Parish Council has given the go-ahead for a fun fair to be held in the village - promising all Covid-19 risk assessments have been carried out.

The Thurston Family Fun Fair is already in Shortstown and will remain at the village hall playing fields until Sunday, October 25.

According to the parish council, the Thurston Family has carried out all the necessary checks.

But one Shortstown resident questioned whether it should even go ahead during a pandemic.

She said: "Is this a necessary thing to do, as we are currently in a major pandemic with cases rising by the day? I believe if the fun fair goes ahead there will be a massive weight on the mayor's hands with Covid cases rising extremely high in the town."

The resident added: "I believe bringing fun fairs into a town of high Covid cases is absurd. We cannot afford to be placed in a local lockdown."

The fun fair will finish at 8pm on Thursdays and Sundays and 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

In a statement by the parish council, it said: "Thurston Family has carried out Covid-19 risk assessments, have marked out two-metre distancing, will only allow a certain number of people in at any one time, have hand sanitisers to use, and no exchange of money will be used just contact/cards.

"Shortstown Parish Council hopes that members of the community will enjoy the fun fair."
