Urgent work is taking place to repair the bridge at the entrance to Bedford Crematorium on Norse Road.

A routine inspection this week identified erosion of the bank supporting the bridge.

Further investigations are now taking place with potential work to ensure the bridge remains safe for vehicles accessing the site. While the work takes place this entrance to the site will be closed. During this time vehicle access to the crematorium will be via the exit gateway further along Norse Road.

Signs and traffic lights will be in place to enable vehicles to enter and leave the site safely, but the public are asked to allow extra time for their journeys.

A Bedford Borough Council spokesperson said: "We apologise for any inconvenience the temporary closure puts in place. This work is needed to ensure the safety of the bridge for vehicles accessing the site. While these works take place vehicles will be able to enter and leave the crematorium through the sites exit.”
