Moonface Records to open its first permanent store at Bedford’s Harpur Centre

Bedford is set to welcome Moonface Records which prepares to open its very first permanent store at the Harpur Centre on May 30.

Specialising in a wide mix of music genres, Moonface Records will offer an extensive selection of vinyl records and CDs spanning Rock, Indie, Alternative, Pop, Hip Hop and K-Pop.

While the focus is on new and sealed releases, customers will also find a carefully curated range of pre-owned items.

The store is designed to appeal to a broad customer base with a particular focus on Millennials, Gen Z and Gen Alpha music fans. Whether customers are discovering physical music for the first time or are seasoned collectors, Moonface Records aims to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all.

The business began as a modest single-table pop-up in Essex before rapidly gaining traction through record fairs across the country. Recognising a gap in the market for a retailer that caters to younger audiences rediscovering vinyl and CDs, the brand expanded into regular market trading in late 2024 building a strong presence at Milton Keynes Outdoor Market and later at Bedford Charter Market in August 2025.

Following strong customer demand and recent investment from its founder, Moonface Records has chosen Bedford as the home for its first permanent location, citing the town’s enthusiastic community support as a key factor in the decision.

James Skelton, founder of Moonface Records, said: “We’re genuinely buzzing to be opening the shop. The support we’ve had over the past months – especially

in Bedford – has been incredible, and it’s what made this feel like the right place to put down roots. We can’t wait to open the doors, trade seven days a week, and become part of the local scene. It’s a privilege to be alongside other great record shops in the town, and we’re excited to add something new to it.”

Positioned between a large high-street retailer and a traditional independent record shop, Moonface Records aims to combine the best of both worlds. The store will offer a modern, accessible shopping experience alongside the warmth and personality of a local independent. A particular emphasis will be placed on CDs as well as imported items, including sought-after South Korean K-Pop releases and exclusive box sets.

The new store will also help create jobs with three team members already been recruited, and plans to expand staffing in the future, including potential summer roles for young people and work experience opportunities.

Samantha Laycock, Centre Manager at the Harpur Centre, said: “We are delighted to welcome Moonface Records to the Harpur Centre. Their arrival adds something truly

unique to our retail mix, appealing to a younger audience while still offering something for everyone. This opening further strengthens and diversifies our offering, and we’re confident the store will be a fantastic addition for both our shoppers and the wider Bedford community.”
