Ryebridge Construction is carrying out the work, which includes clearing and removing the existing surface, installing new drainage, pavements, kerbs and laying high quality granite surface.

Alongside the ground surfacing and drainage improvements there will be new seating, cycle stands, recycling bins and new lighting.

The contractors are also giving blocks from the site to a special needs school, the Weatherfield Academy, in Dunstable. These blocks will be used to create a valuable paved area enhancing opportunities for students at the school.

Mayor Dave Hodgson said, “With the building of the new bus station, the surrounding area had begun to look tired and I am very pleased that we can bring forward this major improvement project."
