Users began experiencing issues with apps such as Gmail, Drive, Sheets and YouTube at around 11.22am today (Monday, December 14).

Hundreds of users have expressed issues to DownDetector, an independent outage monitor, with the majority so far relating to receiving messages and logging in.

Google has not yet responded to the reasons for the outage which appears to be affecting users in the USA, Japan and South America.

But thousands took to Twitter and Facebook — which are not Google apps — to voice their amazement.

One posted: "2020 is incredible, even Google didn't make it through."
