Natalie Baker, Elizabeth McFarlane and Robert Taberer were presented with their awards by lead volunteer for the Group Jonathan Smith.

To achieve the Gold Chief Scout Award Elizabeth, Natalie and Roberts had to complete nine Challenge Awards. These are Adventure, Creative, Expedition, Outdoor, Personal, Skills, Team Leader, Teamwork and World. They also had to gain six activity badges which can range from hobbies to swimming to survival skills.

All three thought the most challenging part of achieving the award was the expedition as they had to plan a route, carry their equipment, erect tents, cook their dinner and breakfast and take down the tents. They also felt it was the most enjoyable part of achieving the award.

Elizabeth said: “For the expedition we had to do all of the planning, the hiking and cooking. We really knew we were doing something that took us out of our comfort zone. We had prepared everything from start to finish and we had checked everything with our leaders.”

Jonathan Smith said: “Elizabeth, Natalie and Robert have worked very hard to achieve the award. They have undertaken activities in their own time such as gymnastics and music and have done some voluntary work in the community. They have learnt life skills such as cooking, planning and working with others and have tried new activities, including canoeing and climbing.”
