General election 2019: Labour's Yasin holds Bedford and Kempston seat by just 145 votes

Labour MP Mohammad Yasin has held on to his Bedford and Kempston seat this morning, ith the Conservatives just 145 votes behind.

Mr Yasin, who was first elected in 2017, fought off Tory candidate Ryan Henson by the tightest of margins after receiving 20,491 votes.

The conservative candidate and councillor for Hertford Sele fell just short of a majority with 20,346 votes cast for him.

In the last two elections, less than 1,100 votes have made the difference between Labour and the Tories in what has been a marginal seat.

Lib Dem candidate Henry Vann came third with 4,608 votes, a significant improvement on his parity's lowly performance of 2,837 in 2017.

The Brexit Party, making its first appearance in a Bedford electoral vote, achieved just 896 votes with candidate Charles Bunker.

Green Party candidate Adrian Spurrell, who previously contested for Bedford mayor, was backed by 960 voters.
