Flitwick Lower School will change its age range and merge with Busy Bees pre-school after proposals set out by Central Bedfordshire Council were approved.

The decision means the school will be able welcome two to four-year-olds as part of the newly merged schools.

The Council carried out a statutory consultation in January, which received broad support from local residents, with the proposals due to be considered in April by Executive Member for Families, Education and Children, Cllr Sue Clark.

As a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic, this meeting was unable to take place within the two-month period required by Department for Education regulations.

Cllr Clark approved the proposals on May 20 and this was subsequently agreed by the Office of the Schools Adjudicator on June 12.

Cllr Clark said: “We welcome this decision which is good news for families in Flitwick.

"The school will now be able to focus more resources on teaching and learning for the children between the ages of 2 and 4, while helping to ensure consistency and continuity of provision.”
