Fire crews called to blaze in Kempston caused by electric car battery

Fire crews were called to Kiln Road in Kempston last night (September 9) following reports that an electric car battery was on fire.

It happened around 7.30pm with the vehicle moved to a safe space and a cordon put in place. Firefighters from Kempston Fire Station used three breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to cool off the vehicle. Clay mats were used to contain the water runoff. The cause was accidental.

Later crews were called to two different fires in the open in Meadow Lane, Bedford.

The first was at 7.38pm and was a fire made up of garden rubbish and general household waste. Crews extinguished it using one hose reel jet and dampened down the fencing.
