Bedford mayor, Dave Hodgson, said: “The rise in Covid-19 cases nationally is hugely concerning. I’d like to thank everyone here in Bedford for their efforts to control the virus to date but we must all continue to do everything that we can to stop its spread and protect our community.

“This latest lockdown will be tough for us all but we must pull together to get through it. Please continue to follow the national advice including around ‘Hands, Face, Space’, limit your contact with others and stay home as much as you can.

“During this time we will continue to focus on support for those most affected and especially support for the most vulnerable. Alongside this, it is vital that the government provides the financial support for residents and businesses to help them get through it.”
