Central Bedfordshire Council’s executive has agreed a business plan for a new council-owned and run development company - New Vista Homes

It will develop land owned by the council and build 250 homes over the next three to five years.

The initial sites to be developed are: Houghton Lodge, in Ampthill and Steppingley Road in Flitwick - which will have homes for the over 55s - and Northwood End Road, in Haynes - which will have family homes.

Developments in Dunstable and Caddington are also included in the developments.

The council plan is for New Vista Homes to focus on addressing gaps in the market. For example: homes to rent, accessible homes and homes for older people, alongside market housing for sale.

Cllr Eugene Ghent, executive member for assets and housing delivery, said: “There are high levels of demand for these types of homes from our residents, but private developers are not supplying enough of them.

“Central Bedfordshire Council already has experience of delivering homes like the large independent living schemes at Priory View in Dunstable and All Saints View in Houghton Regis.

"This new company will work alongside the council and will deliver more of the types of housing we need, where and when we need them.”
