Community steps in to help families devastated by fire in Wootton

A fundraising page has been set up to help four families in Wootton who lost all their belongings in a fire on Saturday.
Cherie Griggs, set up the Go Fund Me page after a fire in a block of flats in Harris Way, Wootton, destroyed all the belongings of four families, including young children.

Hide AdBedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports (11 duplicate calls) of a building fire in Wootton at just after 4.30am on Saturday, Mary 23.
A spokesman for Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue said: "Several crews from Kempston and Bedford were deployed to the fire in the downstairs lobby of a three storey block of flats.
"Crews extinguished the fire with hose reels and jet and a man was treated for smoke inhalation by East of England Ambulance Service.
"A fire investigation was carried out with a fire dog and no accelerant was found at the scene."

Hide AdOn the fundraising page it says: "It has been utterly devastating for a family friend... her son, his girlfriend and their 3 children were in the property at the time the fire broke out. They have managed to retrieve some clothes but everything else is beyond usable.
"I am asking for your help. Please even if it is £1 this will help towards rebuilding their lives again. I know it would mean so much. It will be one less thing to worry about and they will be able to start getting the things they are in need of."
