Celebrating 20 years of popular Bedford Junior Aquathlon
Bedford Junior Aquathlon returned for its 20th year last weekend for a fun-packed event combining swimming and running.
More than 185 children took part in events for schoolchildren aged from three to 11 who demonstrated their swimming skills at Robinson Pool, before taking part in running events in Bedford Park.
Children in each school year had their own distance to run and number of laps to swim, competing against the clock rather than each other.
Every child was awarded a medal to mark their achievements, with full results available here.

This year’s Bedford Junior Aquathlon event was organised by Bedford Borough Council’s sports development team and sponsored by Gale Family Charity Trust and GLL.
One participant said: “It was wonderful to see the children participate, challenge themselves and enjoy the experience.
“A special mention to all the volunteers, who were absolutely brilliant. Their instructions were clear, their approach was encouraging, and they made every child feel comfortable, confident and included. What stood out most was how much thought and effort had gone into making the experience enjoyable and welcoming for the kids.
“Events like these make a real difference, giving children opportunities to build confidence, develop new skills and create wonderful memories. Thank you to the council, the organisers and every single volunteer for making it such a positive experience.”
Councillor John Wheeler, portfolio holder for customer experience (inc. leisure, recreation and culture) added: “It was superb to see children from across the borough come together, be active and have fun. We are proud to provide inclusive sporting events like the Bedford Junior Aquathlon, where children get outdoors and enjoy being part of the community.
“The council would like to thank all the children, parents, volunteers, supporters and sponsors for making the Aquathlon’s 20th anniversary a memorable success.”
The next Bedford Junior Aquathlon will take place in March 2027.
