One big-hearted woman is offering to cook, plate up and deliver free Christmas dinners to lonely people left stranded in their home on Christmas Day due to the Tier 4 lockdown.

Lisa Barnes and her husband Michael, from Park Road, Westoning, are having their own festive food delivered by courier from London's Fortnum & Mason but wanted to reach out to neighbours in the area less fortunate.

Lisa put an appeal on the Westoning Cares Facebook group, saying: “The announcement of Tier 4 means a lot of people can’t go and spend Christmas with their families/friends, if anyone in Westoning or close by is left alone and would like a Christmas dinner plated up and dropped off, or even a Zoom call, please send me a message, don’t be too proud or too shy, it will be our pleasure to do what we can.”

Lisa added: “We are far from rich, just worried about others in these awful times.”

When one man asked “Is there a charge?”, Lisa immediately replied: “No charge for you.”

Lisa’s announcement has received more than 100 likes and lots of appreciative comments from neighbours astounded by her generosity.

Sarah Vass, from Marston Moretaine, wrote: “Such a lovely thing to do....I hope your kindness is rewarded.”

Desiree D, from Bramingham Park, said: “This is the most wonderful thing to say, may the Lord richly bless you and your household.”

And Charlie Garth commented: “You’re like the Christmas fairy. Well done.”

Lisa told Bedford Today: "When the Tier 4 announcement came, I thought there are going to be lot of people on their own now."
