Captain Tom, who raised almost £33million for the NHS, has reached the final 10 selection stage in the Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons 2020 in the Coronavirus Hero category.

Earlier this year, Captain Sir Tom Moore, of Marston Moretaine, captured the nation's hearts when he walked 100 laps of his back garden before his 100th birthday.

He was knighted, was made a honorary Colonel and his 100th birthday was marked by flypasts by the Royal Air Force and the British Army.

He reached the selection stage out of about 50 nominations in the Coronavirus Hero category chosen by the public from around the UK.

Four finalists will be selected in each category and the winner will be announced in October. Falklands War hero Simon Weston chairs the judging panel.

Amplifon has 200 hearing clinics across the UK and Ireland.
