Bedford Borough Council is refurbishing King's Bridge, the pedestrian bridge over the River Great Ouse between the Oasis Beach Pool and the Aspects Leisure Park.

The works include an entire repaint, some steelwork refurbishment and the replacement of the worn timber deck panels with steel decking and high friction surfacing.

The bridge will be closed from Thursday (October 29) for up to six months. There'll be pedestrian diversion routes in place.

Councillor Charles Royden, portfolio holder for environment, said, “King's Bridge has been in desperate need of refurbishment, so I’m pleased to announce these works. This year has shown how important investment in our walking and cycling infrastructure is, so we want to continue to improve our networks to keep them in good condition for residents of Bedford borough.

“Unfortunately, this means the bridge will need to be closed for a period of time but the council will be signposting new routes to allow residents to get across the River Great Ouse safely. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to residents who use the bridge.”
