Prime Minister Boris Johnson tried his hand at bricklaying before giving his plan to tackle the national housing crisis.

He also promised that under a Tory government one million new houses will be built in the next five years.

The Prime Minister, speaking to the Times&Citizen, said: "I was in Bedford today to talk about our plans to build more homes across the country and help renters get a fairer deal.

"Under a Conservative majority government, we’ll build a million more homes over the next five years, as well as introducing new measures to help renters buy and a new scheme to avoid renters needing to save for a new deposit while their money is already in an existing one.

"And this is in addition to Conservative policies like Help to Buy, which is already helping more than 2,500 people in Bedford alone.

"Crucially, we need to get Brexit done so we can focus on helping more people get on the property ladder and other priorities, not two more chaotic referendums under Labour’s plans which would hold this country back and create more deadlock and delay.”
