Bedford trio to tackle largest abseil tower in the world - a staggering 418ft

How would you face abseiling 418ft?

No, us neither - but that's exactly what three women are doing to raise money for a new playground for primary school children with moderate learning difficulties.

Nikki Horner, Shannon Poulter and Catherine Assink will be tackling the National Lift Tower in Northampton - the largest abseil tower in the world.

The three daredevils - from Bedford Inclusive Learning and Training Trust (BILTT) - have never attempted anything like this before but on July 3, they are determined to help the pupils at Grange Academy.

Catherine, acting CEO of BILTT said: “I am actually pretty terrified to be honest. However, if we are able to raise money for our schools and raise the profile of what we do for some of the most disadvantaged in society then a 418ft drop is well worth it.”

Nikki, who arranged the event, added: “I always think outside the box, so when it came to thinking up another idea to raise money this seemed like a great idea. Shannon, myself and Catherine have never done anything like this before.

“We like a challenge and this shows our determination and dedication to our pupils and their opportunities.”

Shannon said: “I know we will be extremely scared but hopefully doing it together will be comforting. I’ve heard the views are amazing but I think I won’t be looking down to notice any of that.”
