Two yoga Patanjali yoga teachers have been recognised for their sporting achievements, supporting diverse communities in Bedford.

Each year, Bedford Sports Awards acknowledges clubs, teams who keep people active and continue to inspire others - but due to Covid-19, this year’s winners were announced online.

Charan Sekhon and Shital Gandhi from Bedford were praised for supporting diverse communities, especially the elderly and women through online yoga classes since the pandemic started.

They have helped more than 200 people from ethnic groups who are regarded as Covid-19 high risk category and the elderly women who would not attend any other activities.

Charan and Shital said: "We are pleased to play our part in supporting diverse communities of Bedford. Covid-19 has brought tough times for all and we have tried our best to help the local communities by coordinating and facilitating free online yoga classes.

"We are humbled to receive this recognition which will always remind us to do more and better for our local communities.’’

Both are also active community volunteers of SEVA Trust UK, a Bedford-based charity, which has been providing free food and daily essentials since March.
