An earthquake is believed to have been responsible for houses across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire shaking at around 9.45am this morning (Tuesday, September 8).

Homes in an area from Leighton Buzzard to Hemel Hempstead are believed to have felt the tremor.

One residents said: “It came from nowhere - I thought that a van had driven into my house.

“The whole place shook, it was both scary and completely inexplicable.”

A spokesman for Central Bedfordshire Council said they were waiting for confirmation that it was an earthquake from the British Geological Survey.

Bedfordshire Police said there had been no reports injuries from the incident.
