Party baking is a piece of cake for TV star

When wedding planners, birthday party organisers, and even the odd celebrity, are looking for the perfect celebration cake, they’ll be dialling a Bedford baker.

Charlotte White has made a name for herself by creating bespoke cakes inspired by burlesque decadence and vintage chic, for customers including Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Stephen Fry.

And while she has made several TV appearences, and written two books, she hopes to inspire more bakers by turning her Brickhill kitchen into a home film studio to make online tutorials.

Charlotte said: “All my celebration cakes are designed specially for each client, for when people want something unique and special.

“But it’s not rocket science. If you started at the beginning and practice, you’d be surprised at what you can do.”

Charlotte also runs workshops and demonstrations at events across the country, and plans on using her “filming kitchen” to offer workshops closer to home.

She said: “My tutorials and books are for people who love to bake but are scared of the decorating. In them I don’t hold anything back, or keep any trade secrets to myself.”
